Maternity leave

Husband came down with a cold about two weeks ago and three days later I promptly followed suit. It's one of the only times we've managed to be poorly at the same time so that was interesting. The coughing and sniffles we had combined must have made our neighbors' day. We're both getting better now and the bigger nuisance for me is that my ears keep popping and I feel like someone put cotton wool in there. The very good part was that I've slept!!!! Seriously. It's been wonderful.
As husband is on holiday now we had a chance to go together to the hospital today for baby's and mine check up. We already spend a couple of hours there yesterday as we went to check out the maternity ward and delivery ward. It was really great to get to look around and get a bit more prepared to what is about to happen once it's time to deliver. I had a lot of false contractions all day yesterday so for a while I was thinking we'd have to stay there right away. As you can conclude from the fact that I'm blogging, we didn't quite yet :).
I was a bit worried about the check up today since I had some questions and the last time I felt it hard to get myself heard. This time, though, we were so blessed that it was a different doctor - the very same one who in September was there to do the first ultrasound that showed us that the baby's heart is beating. I like her! :)
The baby has not decended yet and nothing else indicates - I won't go into details to spare you - that we're anywhere near giving birth yet. This is of course good news since we're at week 35 now and the baby needs yet some weeks so that her lungs mature.
The diet and medication have done wonders and the baby now weighs about 2,4 kilos i.e. exactly as much as she should at this point. If she continues like this and arrives close to her due date she should then be about 3,5 kilos which would really be great. She's also bashful and yet again didn't want to confrim her sex :). So, at the end of the day I really am going to get to experience of asking which is it when she's been born. I kind of like that.
Things can change - the next check up is in three weeks time - but for now it seems there is no reason why I couldn't give birth the good old fashioned way. So, at least for now no c-section or induced labor is in the plans which is wonderful. I am, however, still stubbornly trying to convince the baby that week 38 is a good time to make an appearance since although things are going very well I've now been pregnant forever!
Bless our nurse's heart, by the way, because she said that she didn't think my belly looked huge. In fact she said it looked just the right size. I've felt like an elephant with the comments about my size - good natured and well meaning as they have been.
Having just yesterday seen new borns at the maternity ward the size of our baby also got much smaller in my thoughts than it had been. They really are teeny, goodness. Now, if I just knew what to do with one as we're about to have one of those :).

So nice to hear your news. Just a few more weeks, and you get your little bundle of joy ;) aren't you anxious to meet her and see what she really looks like?
