Bacteria Battle

Well, it turns out little girl has an ear infection in her right ear and it's pretty bad. On Tuesday, we first went to the Health Center's ER and from there we were sent to the University Hospital of Turku because her CRP was over a hundred indicating she has something else than the ear infection, as well. By this time I was pretty scared.
At the hospital her white cell count was normal and it should mean there is nothing more sinister going on in her body. I got a better explanation today as we went to the ER again - I'll tell you why in minute - and it seems there are two common viruses that affect the CRP (not all do); one is entero and the other one started with an "a". The latter one typically manifests itself with a high fever and nausea. And that is exactly what little girl had on Friday. CRP lags a day so if they test it today it tells you the situation yesterday.
Now the reason we were back at the ER this morning was that I noticed yesterday evening that something was oozing from her ear. At first I thought it was blood and got a horrible scare and then I realized it probably wasn't. I called the ER immediately (it was 9.30 p.m.) and they said we could wait until morning because if the eardrum had ruptured then it had and there is nothing that can be done about it - except of course to give little girl medication to ease her pain, which I'd already done.
The eardrum has ruptured. And I blame myself for not realizing faster that we should go see a doctor. Her ears had been checked on Friday and they were clear then so I know the infection cannot have been there for very long. But in retrospect I think we should have gone Monday morning again. And we didn't. We just kept an eye on her fever thinking it was the whatever virus they had mentioned at ER on Friday which only causes fever. Here's the lesson: do not, NOT, listen to guesses and or probabilites. Check and double check and check again.
In all fairness - to myself - we have been to see a doctor I think at least twice a week for the past month but still. Two days is enough to get a really nasty ear infection going. On the other hand I did keep asking little girl if there was anything that hurt and she kept saying no. Possibly because she is still too small to be able to tell us if something hurts on then because the fever had made her so weak that everything felt equally awful. That's how the ear infection got going, though.
The only good thing about this is that it does ease the pain and it is the body's way of dealing with the pressure there is. Her fever has been down, too, although now that she woke up for a little while - she is having a nap - she was really sweaty.
Little girl has been dying to go swimming and the fact that her eardrum is ruptured means that for the next month she is not allowed anywhere near a swimming hall. Also, when we wash her she needs to have silicone in her ear to protect it from the bacteria in the water. I bought red silicone but I foresee some interesting debates about using it. Poor baby. And Husbad who is the pool attendant in our household. Little girl's plentiful and longish hair doesn't help much either. We need to come up with a really cool reason for the silicone and fast. Maybe Hello Kitty uses them, too...
Before I go check on her again, I ask of you, is it too much to ask that this be it for a little while? Maybe it is but, oh boy, I do hope it isn't! I'm getting exhausted.

Oh, didn't she know? Everyone uses red silicon for bathing once in a while. From Hello Kitty to Niskuneiti, Minnie Mouse to Miffy. All across the board. :-) So sorry you guys are going through such a difficult time! Get better soon now!

Thank you Dora :). We hope so too!
