Little girl is asleep but probably for not too long anymore so I'll try to write fast, hence the even more disturbing number of typos there may be. Since starting in kindergarten we have by now gone through two colds out of which the latter one then brought with it a nasty cough which lasted for eight or nine nights - I forget. She returned to kindergarten last Thursday since her temperature had been down for a couple of days and she only had the cough. However that was not a good decision.
The next morning (5 am) she woke up crying and couldn't get back to sleep. I thought it was separation anxiety since I'd been to work when she went to sleep but alas no. At 7 am we got up but within 10 minutes it was clear she was too exhausted to do anything. We ate a little and went back to bed - me included since I was tired, too. Little girl woke up at 1 p.m. when I went to wake her up, threw up in her bed and was burning hot.
I had to take her to the shower since her hair had to be washed and she was shivering there all pale and tiny. That was one of the worst moments of my life as a mom I have to say.
We had medication for her at home and I gave it to her and it helped but whatever this virus is it really makes her miserable. They said at ER that there is a virus that can do just this: a high fever and nothing else. And it can go on for a week.
It's day number five now so clearly a week is not an underestimation. We're off to the doctor's in about two hours to check that her ears and lungs are ok. We went there on Friday evening and since she had the strength to fight back and make a big fuss the doctor just gave us instructions to make sure she drinks enough and sent us home.
She eats fine and drinks enough so basically she really only has the fever. Until now with the colds she's stayed in a good mood but now all of this is starting to be too much for her. Despite panadol and pronaxen she must be achy and also quite simply sick and tired of being sick. So, there's quite a bit of crying going on and if she had her choice she would sleep on top of me. That would be ok by me but Geraldine thinks she should be part of the fun and games too and my tummy and throat are pretty sore. Having 12 kilos on top of me does not work.
In addition, there's the stress of having a job that I should be able to do. And I can't if I'm not there. We're down to doing the absolute minimum but even that is starting to be exceedingly difficult. Could you be fired if you're child is sick too often? I kinda like my job!

No, you can't be fired if your kid is sick too often. :) But eventually you will not get paid for the extra days off.
Starting daycare is rough just because you and your kid will be sick all the time, but it will get better, I assure you. I keep my fingers crossed you get back to some normal everyday life there asap.
