We had a wonderful wonderful Mother's Day AND Baptism Day yesterday. The weather was amazing; warm and sunny. The baptism was absolutely and exactly how I wished it would be and it was so beautiful. I loved the tunes Matu had chosen to play and the prayers and homily that Father Peter had prepared. The only problem was that Husband who should know better and whose job it is to make sure there are hankies available had somehow neglected to bring any so I had to restrain myself :).
Lotta Anna Marjatta took the whole thing veeeery calmly and slept through most of both the service and her party. She only woke up to eat at one point. BUT when the party was over and everybody had left then she was wide awake and positively enjoying herself lying on one of the tables and giggling. Meanwhile isi (i.e. daddy) was carrying stuff to the car and putting the place in order. Husband was absolutely amazing taking care of everything yesterday and making sure that everybody got fed.
We also got A LOT of help from Lotta's Mummo (grandma) and my Tätsy (Lotta's great aunt). THANK YOU! The men folk where a great help, too, in holding Lotta as we were preparing the Vicarage for the party :). No, to be fair at one point I saw Lotta's Ukko (grandpa) carrying coffee cups to the general direction of the kitchen so it really wasn't just the women folk doing things.
The greatest thing about the party was that I saw and heard people who I really wanted to connect with each other talking to each other. It has been so very important to me that Husband's and my families would connect and I think that yesterday they did. Our wedding was wonderful but with more than 60 people around it was no wonder that people stayed in their own groups. This time we were much fewer and now we have this miracle in our daughter who connects us all: family and friends alike. I am so pleased and so thankful. She is such a miracle in so many ways.
Lotta would like to express her amazement and gratitude of the wonderful gifts and cards she received. They really were wonderful, every single one of them. Lotta's isi and I would like to thank you, too! So, thank you, so much!
One of Lotta's three godmothers is my oldest friend. Her daughter is my goddaughter and now finally after so many years it was time for her to become my daughter's godmother. We made a pact about this already in our teens (the sex of our children was irrelevant but as it happnes we both had daughters :)).
Already then I knew that if this day ever came I'd want her to get a cross for my child and she did and it is beautiful. The reason is that she always had one. From the day I met her at the tender age of six she wore a cross (this is at least how I remember it) and it had been given to her on her baptism. I always thought it was a unique and curious shape and I loved it.
Her cross is in fact one of the biggest reasons why I am a Christian and a pastor today. You didn't even know this did you, godmom? You see, it made me curious and her quiet faith was something that impressed me and continues to impress me to no end. So, I hope all of you who gave us beatuiful presents will forgive me for pointing out just this one. It was given to my daughter by my sister.

nice testimony Mia (grin)
She is beautiful. God bless you both.
erm a week has passed - is she still stuck in the middle of her loot poor thing -
I know, she's had tummy problems and doesn't really want to be anywhere else than in Husband's or my lap. Since Husband is really busy at work, it being May and all it's my lap most of the time and it kinda gets hard to blog at the same time... :)
