Little girl has a very nasty cold and her temperature rises to 39C without paracetamol. With the current swine flu epidemic around you can guess that I'm worried. We do think its a cold and not influenza because it started with a runny nose on Tuesday evening and her temperature only started rising Wednesday afternoon. But she is very sick. Doesn't stop her from playing and talking, though. I can even get her to drink but the fact that she isn't up to eating much worries me. On the other hand, I know I'm a worrier - and motherhood certainly has not made me less so! - so I'm trying to keep calm. But if she still has a high fever tomorrow morning nothing is going to stop me from going to the doctor. Not that anyone would oppose it either.

She'll get better soon. Don't worry about the not eating part. No one with high fever wants to eat much. Could still be the flu, but this shouldn't worry you much either. This swine flu thing has been blown way out of proportion. Complications can arise with any flu, but it's so very rare. You say she's doing well otherwise, so she'll be fine. Though there's absolutely nothing wrong with seeing a doctor with a child with high fever. They may be able to recommend better medication. I'm not a doctor, but I have plenty in the family. My dad out there in Turku is an MD too, though he's been doing research all his life.
