A cold it isn't. It turns out we - Lotta and I have swine flu. After we got home from the ER today Lotta was very tired and taking a nap didn't chage it. We watched the situation for a while and as we took her temperature at 6 p.m. it then turned out it was 39,6 so we called the ER again. When her temperature didn't come down with the medicine we went to see the doctor again. They took a blood test to check wether she has a more general infection but the result was as good as it can be i.e. nothing there. However, the doctor was very wise and sent us to the University hospital just in case.
There Lotta got a good dose of medicine to make her feel better - and it worked well, she even ate a bit - and then she was tested for the swine flu. Within 10 minutes (the test takes 15min) it was clear that it is positive. Since I'm pretty sick myself we are pretty sure I have it, too. We're home for the night and if her breathing stays normal then we'll just give her the antibiotics for her ears - and lungs, too - and other medication to help keep the fever down. And we don't need to go back. Turns out the stuff we'd used doesn't really work for a child this size so Husband left to Turku to get the right kind.
I guess we're not going to need the vaccination now.

Oh dear oh dear, get well soon!!!! :(
LA was just telling us today that LS had the first dose of the vaccine last week, but BB can't have it yet. Only children can get it here, but our county is scheduled for about 2 weeks from now. I will keep you in my prayers; being sick yourself makes it twice as hard. Hope Husband doesn't take it!
Hmm... I had a feeling. But you'll both be all better soon I'm sure of it!
I ended up in the ER last night with an ambulance since I felt I couldn't breathe. But nothing was happening there which in itself was very scary. After two hours I came home and in the morning we called our local ER and found out we would have had the right medicine at home. The only thing is that it makes my heart pound like crazy. Anyway this is a miserable illness I feel as sick as a dog and poor Lotta has started to cough and can't get to sleep.
Okay, so not that soon. Not nearly soon enough. But hang in there! I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I'm still hesitating about getting the shot though... What do you think?
Oh, Mia. I just read the bad news. I really hope today is the day when things are getting better and easier!
